The image itself did not make to the wall of the interior department until 2010 since the project was interrupted by the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1942. The Snake River and Grant Teton was one of the images during his project. In 1941, he was hired by the Secretary of Interior Harold L Ickes to shoot photographic murals of the country to decorate the Interior Building in Washington DC. Ansel used clouds to balance out the exposure and lots of darkroom printing to bring out the details in the sky and the mountains. Ansel Adams used late afternoon light, which drops the grand Tetons into shadow creating the reflection off of the s-curve of the Snake River.
